CBTA is the Licence Assessment option which reduces the time that it takes to get to your full licence (class 6F).

CBTA removes the 6 month minimum time on Learner and REDUCES the time on Restricted to 12 months. Training is not compulsory but with the Ride Forever Program the training is only $20 or $50, and increases your likelihood of passing hugely. Why wouldn't you do it first??

Learner to Restricted CBTA R
Those who hold a Learners Licence can sit their CBTA R at any time, you do not have to wait a minimum of 6 months on Learner Licence to complete your CBTA R and progress to restricted licence.
CBTA R removes the minimum time period for holding a learner licence (you must still be at least 16 ½ years of age when applying for your restricted licence).

Although training isn't compulsory, to prepare yourself in the best way possible, it is highly recommended that all applicants undertake a Ride Forever training course before attempting the assessment ride.
Restricted to Full CBTA F
After 9 months on the Restricted Licence (6R) you can sit your CBTA F assessment, however you need to complete a minimum of 12 months on Restricted Licence before you'll be able to apply for your Full motorcycle licence. (6F)
What does the CBTA F assessment involve?
The assessment is designed to ensure that you're competent in a prescribed range of riding competencies.
The assessment is conducted with the CBTA assessor following you on a motorcycle and you’ll be fitted with radio communication equipment to allow the assessor to communicate with you. Your riding skills will be assessed throughout the entire duration of the assessment ride.
NB: NZTA rules are that you may not do your CBTA F assessment until nine months after your 6R restricted license was issued.
How long does the CBTA F assessment take?

Although training isn't compulsory, to prepare yourself in the best way possible, it is highly recommended that all applicants undertake a Ride Forever training course before attempting the assessment ride.
Allow enough time between the two so you practice and develop the competencies needed to successfully pass your CBTA.

At any given time during the assessment, your performance in one of the following seven riding tasks will be assessed:

Riding a curve
Riding through an intersection
Overtaking

Scanning / mirrors
Head checks

Positioning

What do I need to do to be eligible to undertake CBTA ?

Is training compulsory?
If you’re new to riding, this training will help prepare you for the assessment, ensuring you have the necessary skills to ride safely on our roads.
For existing riders, this training will identify any errors in your riding style and help you correct them before you do your assessment.
ACC – Ride Forever are funding riders to improve their riding skills with a whole day of professional training for only $20 at Bronze level.
What do I do after I’ve passed the assessment?
You can apply for your Restricted licence at any time during your Learner licence period.
You can apply for your Full licence after 12 months on your Restricted licence period.
